What is the best way to repatch over a corner bead

This finish is called ''sand texture''..simply sand the corner bead area first..coat the joint compound as many coats as needed to fix what they didnt do..sand it & all.. Now I am a 37 year experienced painter, & do many textures, mudwork etc..when I have to patch sand texture..believe it or not..I use cornmeal for the sand in it. I thin joint compound down to a rolling consistency after the mudwork is finished. & then take a small weenie roller ( 4 or 6 inch roller) & test on caerdboard or scrap drywall & roll on it lightly untill I get a pattern match like the wall.. I thin lightly roll it on over the repaired area... Start out real light with the cornmeal, then increase it as needed to match.And no..once this is painted, the bugs will; not try to eat it lol..Here is a picture of me & one of my little wallpaper stripping & texturing projects.

CHIP AWAY THE LOOSE STUFF .SKIM WITH SOME JOINT COMPOUND.GET IT CLOSE TO WHERE YOU WANT IT.THEN FINISH IT OFF A DAY OR 2 LATER WITH A DAMP SPONGE.

as a practical matter, what u said is probably the easiest. But to reduce the sanding effort & also the dust, what I like to do is keep an eye on the mud/spackle & when it is starting to set up but is not yet dry, use a wet sponge to remove the bulk of the extra material. Then let it dry completely & finish sand it. The best kind of sander for mud is the screen type that they sell along with the pad that attaches to a shop vac hose. That might be overkill for a small job, but maybe u have a friend who has one u can borrow
